GPS stands for Global Positioning System, which allows anyone to access position data from anywhere in the world at any time. A
GPS Device (Cellular/Non-Cellular) is a navigation device that is typically installed on a vehicle, asset, person, or animal, or embedded into another cellular/wireless device, and uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine its movement and WGS84 UTM geographic position (geo-tracking) to determine its location.
How many times have you been dependent on Google Maps to take you to your destination? We use GPS services more than we tend to realise.
The GPS Evaluation system is the most useful testing system available for the development and manufacture of any appliance equipped with GPS of 1.5GHz band right circular polarisation. Tests such as receiving and RF characteristics can be performed using the GPS Evaluation system. This is achievable with RF Shield Box and Spirent Communication's GPS/GNSS generator. The system may be used to test the performance of any device embedded with an antenna, making it the most comprehensive test for any and all embedded devices with patch antenna and in-navigation vehicle system. The radio wave absorber of 1.5GHz can absorb up to 20dB of unnecessary waves.
Evaluation of any technology is important before we use it. Looking for directions, going on road-trips and finding destinations, sending and receiving live location, and many other habits of our daily routine are based on GPS. Imagine, if your GPS stopped working accurately. The RF Testing Equipment for GPS Device Evaluation accesses the KPIs of your device and gives you valid results of your device.
Testing of following KPIs Facilitated by Shield Box.
1) 3D Position Accuracy
2) 2D Position Accuracy
3) Timing Accuracy
Conducted Measurements:
In order to test cellular GPS devices, GPS and LTE signals are created and applied with care to avoid increasing the receiver's noise floor. The signal source for augmentation that can be used with high-precision GPS receivers. In aided mode, GPS cell phones employ network information to reduce Time To First Fix (TTFF) by giving the phone time and satellite information. Indoor performance is also improved by assisted GPS due to increased sensitivity.
RF Testing equipment allows you to test your device thoroughly.
Radiated Measurements:
Radiated testing will be required for GPS devices where conducted tests are not feasible or deemed insufficient. The test sequences will be the same for all of the tests. The most notable distinction is that in a Shield Box, both the GPS and LTE signal levels will need to be greatly increased to compensate for the propagation losses.
